The Department of Residence at the University of Northern Iowa desired a transformation of this 61,100 square foot, two-story dining center. Once a traditional cafeteria, there is now a market place servery, a true Marche' experience that purposely blurs the line between serving and dining. The building is located in the middle of a large quadrangle formed by four residence halls and connected to each at the upper level by pedestrian bridges. Located on a major pedestrian thoroughfare, the facility acts as a social gathering place for the campus at large, offering a variety of after hour functions, including a cyber café, soda fountain, entertainment center, convenience store, and computer lab. The building also houses the central bakery and produce preparation center for the campus, and the Department of Residence administrative offices.
