Due to the realization that living facilities constructed in the 1960’s would no longer meet the needs and expectations of future students, the ISU Department of Residence decided to modernize Maple Hall. The building exterior received new roofing, window replacement, and precast panel restoration. New mechanical, plumbing, electrical, telecommunications, security, fire protection and fire alarm systems were installed throughout the building. Enhancements to the living/learning environment included the addition of meeting and study rooms, lounges with kitchenettes, classrooms, and computer labs. Resident’s rooms were completely refurbished with new doors, windows, finishes, lavatories, and individually controlled heating and air-conditioning. The center core areas of the eight residential floors were reconstructed with new private bath and toilet facilities, which replaced the original public toilet and shower rooms. The completed renovation has been very well received.
